Mecca - Mike Aquino (2002)

AOR Heaven NEH Records Z-Roxx Loud 1 Groove Machine Destiny Hot Tracks Target Wishing Well Perris Visual Vinyl             MIKE AQUINO / Mecca - Guitars Well Mike, good to hook up with you. I thought I'd just ask you a few questions about the Mecca and things in general, if that's OK? That's fine. Fantastic. So I took down a couple of notes the other day. What I should start with is, when did you first hook up with Jim Peterik? Oh boy. I actually hooked up with Jim through Joe Vana. Oh, OK. Joe Vana was… I was teaching lessons over at a store and Joe was one of my students, and he kept saying, “I've got to tell my buddy Jim about you and, you know, after a bunch of lessons and Joe and I doing basement demo tapes together in his basement, and sending them off to Jim, we finally met Jim and Jim had me play on a song on his World Stage disk and it turned into two songs, into three songs, into four, you know, and so on and so on. So, that's pretty much how I got to meet Jim, ...

Mecca - David Hungate (2002)

AOR Heaven NEH Records Z-Roxx Loud 1 Groove Machine Destiny Hot Tracks Target Wishing Well Perris Visual Vinyl       DAVID HUNGATE / Mecca - Bass Hi David. You are one of the legends of this rock genre, having started your recording career many years ago. Was Toto your first band? My recording career actually began in 1969....Toto began in 1977. Wow…Ok! Looking back, is their any particular segment of your career that you enjoyed most and consider the most rewarding? The period from the recording of Boz Scaggs' "Silk Degrees" (late '75) through Toto IV (1981) was the best. I worked on a number of projects with musicians like Jeff Porcaro, Dean Parks, Lukather, Jay Graydon, Ray Parker, David Paich, David Foster, and others....great rhythm sections, and some great pop/R&B music. No drum machines or click tracks...we just played. Is there a low point that stands out at all? My two years on the A&R staff of MCA Nashville (1985,86). I did very little playing and missed it greatly. What caused you to leave Toto at a period where the band was very successful? In 1982 I had already moved to Nashville and was getting my ...

Glenn Hughes (2002)

GLENN HUGHES - OCTOBER 2001 Building The Vocal Machine xx   Hey Glenn….so how are things with you anyway? So everything's good man, the reviews this week are strong so I'm just, I don't know, startled. All I can tell you know is, I just made another record and people are digging it. Yeah, absolutely, Absolutely. And I'm one of them. Oh yeah? You know, Andrew I've got to tell you, I guess being married and having no… I didn't want to listen to anybody's advice on what my album shouldn't be like. I get a lot of people, trust me, telling me what to do. Like for instance, you can't, you know, be funky. Or you can't have echo and you can't have background vocals. And you shouldn't have any chicks. And you can't have any horns. And whatever you do, don't have… I get people all the time suggesting. And I just locked myself in my studio and I wrote songs. Off the record I said, I wonder what Trapeze would sound like doing this or let's put an acoustic track here. Let's put some real Hammond on there. Let's, let's put some more vocal on the record, ...

John Waite (2002)

Hey John, how are you going? I'm very good thanks, how have you been? Fantastic mate. I don't know if you remembered but I did interview you about 18 months ago... two years maybe. Well I do actually have a vague recollection, but it's a while ago. It was a while ago; in fact, it was when… just before When You Were Mine came out. Oh God, that is a while ago. So how have you been? Very good thanks. Very busy, thank God. Yeah, OK. Absolutely. Where are you calling from actually? From Tasmania, Australia. Oh you're calling from Australia, great. Fantastic. Any excuse to cover you, basically. God bless you. I've been trying to get a hold of you for an interview for about 3-4 months, I reckon. You're a busy man. Well it's all picked up recently. I've been doing the Journey thing, the Peter Frampton thing. The tour went on… It's been so busy, it's been like the old days, like knocking out an album and getting right back on the road. It's been very enjoyable. Fantastic. How did you find the experience with Journey? Well I didn't see much of them. I mean, Neal came out ...

Eric Bazilion (2001)

Eric Bazilian T h e T h e O p t i m i s t  I n t e r v i e w Eric Bazilian is a man with several faces. He's part of the pop-rock sensation The Hooters, who took the world by storm in the summer of '85, he's also a man with a darker side that likes to write about God - scoring a second Grammy nomination for his efforts. And he's the guy that can adapt to write in just about ay style, co-writing one of the best tracks to last year's Journey album - the track To Be Alive Again. He also at the drop of a hat scrapped all the work on his second solo album and instead wrote and recorded a new one on his Powerbook computer in six days in Sweden this past summer. His new album is now called A Very Dull Boy and will be released on his own label Mousetrap Records soon. After this interveiw was done Eric added this update, adding that the new album features "...two guitars, bass and drums and a lot of singing. It rocks and I like it a whole lot." ...

Queensryche - Geoff Tate (2001)

Queensryche Interview - Interview conducted Thursday 20th October 2001. Geoff Tate, who is the lead vocalist for Seattle's own Queensryche, took the time to talk to Justin Donnelly about the bands new double live album 'Live Evolution'. Why a live album at this stage in your career? It wasn't planned at all, and was a kind of a spontaneous in our decision to make it. Our new record company Sanctuary inspired it. We went out to dinner after they came to see us play, when someone suggested we should do a live record. The next day, following a lovely dinner and several bottles wine, we had an agreement to do a live record. (Laughs) How was the track selection organised? Did you decide to slip in some tracks that hadn't been played for a while? Their (Sanctuary) idea, what they would ultimately like to see, was a well-rounded record. And the more we (The band) talked about it, we came up with more and more songs we wanted to include on it. It just turned into a big monster. Then we thought, 'Wow! We've got so many songs, why do we just represent our entire career by taking a couple of ...

Loverboy - Mike Reno (2001)

mm   This interview was conducted before the untimely death of Loverboy bassist Scott Smith. It's an interveiw that unfortunately didn't get aired at the time, but is still highly relevent today. Hope you enjoy it. I hope to follow up the interview with some new comments from Mike shortly.... Thank you for calling Mike... My pleasure. That's great. I must confess, I'm a longtime fan - since about '85 I guess. Yeah. Great. How are things? Things are great. Busy, working hard. Lots of concerts, you know, traveling around. Loverboy have been on the road haven't they? Yeah. Who have you been touring with? Just yourselves? Yeah. OK. What do you see the recording status of Loverboy right now? Is there anything planned? We just finished a live album. (Live, Loud & Loose - OUT NOW!) Oh you've done that, great. We just mixed it; it'll be out soon. Sony Records is handling it. Oh, great! We will be touring to go along with it, as usual, but we thought we'd try something that's interesting. We're going to play live just like the CD is recorded, so we're going to come bang right out of the box just like ...

T h e Time Passes I n t e r v i e w         Hey Kelly, thanks for your time again. The album's out in Europe, are Frontiers are going to do the US release for you? If I can get something better, they'll go for that. So I'm going to see if I can use some of my contacts around that I know. But any of the companies that I know are majors and they're not really keen on signing an act like me. What, good music you mean? Yeah. They want all that..., anyway. Maybe if you dye your hair blond and wear shorts or something and a baggy top. And pierce everything and brand my face. And play music with no melody in it at all. Absolutely. And scream a bit more. It's not a sign of age is it? Definitely not. I think we just like good music. Yeah, we do. And you know what? I've got some kids on the site that e-mail me and say, hey, I'm nineteen and I haven't been corrupted by the crap on MTV. Some of those kids do like good music. That's cool. That's great. ...

Giant - David Huff (2001)

David Huff: I tried to get in touch with you, I guess I had the wrong number or something. MelodicRock.com: Yeah, Mario kept saying, “I'll get him to call you”. For some reason something in me tweaked that like, well what number is he going to call? I know it. But I thought, oh he must have it under control because I've got my phone number on the website, but he had my old number, so… That's what it was. Actually it was a fax number or something, so I faxed something. Oh it's a fax number now is it? Yeah. Oh dear. It's not mine. <laughs> Isn't it funny, man. Yeah, so I sent them a fax and then I called Mario and said, "Man I don't think it's the right number." And he said, "I think I got the wrong number, my mistake." Not a problem. Great to finally catch up with you anyway. Yeah man. So what part of Australia are you in? I'm in Hobart, which is the capital of Tasmania. Oh my gosh. I've been to Australia one time and loved it. I went through Sydney, Perth, I can't remember all ...

Journey - Neal Schon (2001)

Thanks for calling, great to talk to you again. Yeah, Rindell gave me a heads up yesterday, said we were going to finally do this, you know. I've been putting this off because I thought it would be better to do like sometime before the record was coming out...it kept on getting pushed back. Is there any way I can get a little more volume out of your phone? Possibly. You can't hear me real well? Not that well. OK. Now I can hear you pretty well. Maybe its just a case of redialing or... <break> That's definitely what it is, it's a bit of my tinitus. So the years of standing next to an amplifier have taken there toll? That and a lot of the symbols, you know, symbols are like really loud when you get drummers up on risers, you know, the sound comes right down directly at your ears. And, you know, loud motorcycles <laugh>, loud guitars and loud motorcycles. You ride do you? Yeah Where about, just around your home there? Yeah, well, you know, I go for a longer ride sometimes with friends, you know, we'll go...I've ...

Journey - Jonathan Cain (2001)

Thank you for the call, I've been looking forward to talking to you for a while. How are things? Things are good. Excellent. You must be in a pretty buoyant mood, two weeks out from the Arrival release. It feels a little anticlimactic with the Napster thing, you know, it kind of took a little of the shine off of it, but I think all in all, our fans are ready for it, and it's just nice to be surfacing with a new album and some new energy out there. It's been about a 6 month drawn out process now hasn't it? How have you found that? It's pretty odd isn't it? Well, I think you have to have some sort of launch today, and when you've been gone as long as we've been gone, and obviously we've made some changes, you have to be careful not to just drop it out in a crowd. I think when our schedule release in October... it looked awfully crowded and it didn't look like the record company was ready, nor I think, did we have the kind of tour we wanted either. I think we have a summer crowd, you ...

Journey - Steve Augeri (2001)

I can not tell you how long I've been bugging Rindell to set this up for me, and hoping that it would come together. Because I am a huge fan of your work, let me say. I'm flattered, I truly am. I've read your reviews and the kind words that you've said about me. I'm thankful, I truly am. You have some big shoes to fill. I think you've done it with ease. For me, although I've been at this for nearly three years now, it still seems, for this first record, I still feel like we got a ways to go as far as finding the right niche. But I think we're on the right track. I think every time we play together whether it's rehearsal, recording or shows, we still get a little closer to our final destination. And I think as time goes by, I think by the next record, I think we're going to get it. If you like it this time out, I hope to think you'll really like it next time, cause I think it will be that much more where it should be. We did a lot of experimenting through the ...

David Coverdale (2000)

DAVID COVERDALE The Into The Light Interview             You know, if you make music your mistress....you've got to accept her mood swings.... David Coverdale - 2000 This was a big interview for me. As a long time fan and devotee of everything Coverdale, it took a while to get David on the phone and this was it. Lucky for me David was in a chatty and expressive mood. Unlucky that it would take me this long to get the interview formatted and online. David quite often switched topic mid sentence and was certainly vocal on many issues. He also has a fine sense of humor. I hope that comes through and I hope the interview comes together OK and makes sense...most of the time! So, I owe you a debt of thanks I understand Andrew. Michael said you're an incredible supporter of what I do. Well it comes from being a long time fan David and I've got this site down, I guess it's the least I can do. Bless your heart. Johnny Gioeli (2000)

So Johnny, the first question I should be asking you, is what have you spent your time doing with life after Hardline? Well, me and Joey started an e-commerce company that's going real well. Really? In 2000 we're going public What exactly is the company? It's a company called FULLe-com. What we do is handle the complete end-to-end transaction for an Internet site. Pretty much the Internet company comes to us and we don't do anything on the front end, we don't build sites or anything like that. We're all back office. We'll handle all the credit card authorizations. We have 327,000 square feet of distribution. We ship the product direct to the consumer. We do all the data storage and online reporting. We run Internet business for about 600 corporations. We started in a little eight by eight office 2 years ago in a little 3 car garage. We have 55 employees just on this coast. We have offices in New York and Vienna, Austria. Who else is the 'we' in that?! My brother Joey and myself run the company. Joey is CEO of the company. My sister is also involved. You are either incredibly smart cookies or had some fantastic advice or both? ...

OK Mitch, Thanks for taking the time out before you hit the road to answer some more interrogations. As you know and many readers of the website know, I have been privilege to seeing you record this album from the very start, thanks to you keeping in touch and updating me on the progress. I hope the questions can help reveal some of the hurdles you overcame.   So mate, standing where we are now, on the verge of the release of your third CD and the first to be independently record and released by yourself - how do you feel?!! I am laughing at that question because I am so tired and overwhelmed at the moment I can't believe it. This tour is scheduled too close to the conclusion of the record and there are way too many details to be handled. Let me put it this way, if you could see inside my head, you would scream. LOL! Other than that, I feel great that the record is finally finished. And am happy to be able to give something back to the fans. Looking back, would you recommend other artists out there reading this to take a similar ...

Hair Of The Dog (2000)

I am totally floored at the quality of the album. Really? Yeah it was above and beyond what I was expecting to hear. Oh thank you. We're huge rock fans and I gotta tell you there were a lot of ways we could've done this record. The musical climate right now in the U.S and I'm pretty sure around the rest of the world and the thing we were up against when we made this record was to either do what we'd done all along and pay attention to our roots like early Van Halen, Aerosmith, Kiss and AC/DC or we could have gone the other way and totally gone industrial with loops and all different kinds of stuff and make that kind of record. But you know what we couldn't have done that because we're not that kind of band. We're a real rock band. I'm so pleased to hear that because several years ago there were a lot of bands making music influenced by the early '80's and the '70's and making records in that vein, but bands today, I don't know who they're influenced by. I wonder what did they grow up on. ...

Styx - Dennis De Young (2000)

Dennis De Young is an established legend. No doubt. Speaking to Dennis was one of my bigger interviews and I would like to say that he was a pleasure to talk to and one of the funniest guys I have listened to. He is genuinely down to earth, humble and a very nice guy. Thanks to my awesome fiancée Cathy for typing this interview out for me. Even she commented how genuine Dennis sounded and I hope that comes across in the text... How are you? I hope you haven't been trying to get through? No I did try twice before when Jim Peterik gave me your number I think about 6.30 our time and the phone rang out… It's good to finally talk to you it is a great pleasure to talk to you. My pleasure also I've never talked to anyone in Australia EVER. Really, good grief. My wife has always had a burning desire to come down there. Well you've got an excuse now. Well yeah. Night Ranger - Jeff Watson (2000)

February 2000 and Jeff watson is hard at work at his home studio on a new instrumental album. I talked to Jeff about that, Night Ranger's 20th anniversary, why Neverland never got the exposure it should have, the re-issue of Around The Sun and a bunch of other stuff.... G'Day Jeff! G'Day Andrew Hey how are you? I'm doing good, I'm working in the studio. Oh good, you got a few minutes to talk? Certainly. Tell me about what you're doing right now? At the moment I'm cutting a steel stringed classical guitar piece with a little bit of electric slide over them for another instrumental record like my first one, 'Lone Ranger' that came out early '90's. I'm shopping that in Japan, Europe and America. More of like the 'Windham Hill' and 'Higher Octave' kind of stuff. This is a little more intricate than that because it's a higher degree of difficulty due to some of the classical pieces I wrote. So that's coming out real good. I'm getting a real good response. I just did a song for a movie. It's a huge animation thing, a lot like Pokemon which is very very popular. I had never heard ...

Hey David, I've been trying to get through but we've had some power problems today. Where are you calling from? Hobart, Tasmania. Oh right. How about you? LA right? Yes, you're down under and I'm up above here. I'm in LA and it's a gorgeous day here. Fantastic. Here it's blowing a gale here! How are things with the band then? Things are really good. The band's been touring and we've been playing around the United States doing Vegas and there's a lot of casinos we've been playing in different places. We're going to be playing in Caribbean and we're going down to Costa Rica and Mexico City here in April. The band is doing really well. We're taking a little bit of time off here and getting ready to promote our new album, which is 'Mindfields'. We've gone on a few shows like Donny and Marie Osmond and Rosie O Donnell and things like that you know. So we're just kind of entering a new phase here gearing up here to promote this new record. On no, now you're making me feel really old. That's not that long ago! Maybe I should start back there at the beginning. Where were you before MSG, Grand Prix right? When I was in Grand Prix, ironically I was approached by Michael at that time. Grand Prix was playing in London and they came down to a show. We were scheduled to go out on tour, I think with Sammy Hagar on the Standing Hampton tour. At the time I let it go and got some bad press out of it. 'Who does he think he is refusing this gig' & 'He mustn't know what's good for his career'. Blah blah blah....(That's Robin saying that, not me editing the interview!!) Paul Shortino - Jimmy Crespo (2000)

Good of you to call Paul, how are thing's going with you and your new partner? Me and Jimmy are really hitting it off well and we're going to have a great big future together, he's a great player. Tell me how you two together? We got together, actually through a mutual friend of ours who used to play drums for Jefferson Airplane if you can believe that. Joey Cummings. We did a gig together. He gave me a call and Jimmy a call and that's how we hooked up. From that moment on it was like love at first sight. I fell in love with his guitar playing and he fell in love with my voice. We've taken it to a new level and in about a month we're really gonna let the cat out of the bag on what's really going on. I know you'll be pleasantly happy and a lot of people will with what we're coming out with. So that's how we hooked up and we've been rehearsing and we've been working on the new record. Jimi Jamison (2000)

Congratulations on the new album. Thankyou. Have you heard it yet? I certainly have. I've heard it and reviewed it and I'm a big fan of it. Great, it's on your website. I haven't been able to get online for the last 10 or 15 days or so. It's the lead off review right now so. Actually my laptop is broken at the moment so I can't get online. Now going back about 18 months or so I heard a tape of demos for it which were a lot more mellow And obviously a lot more unfinished and at the time I thought it was going to be a fairly mellow pop album but you've really come out fighting with it. Yeah we changed it a little bit didn't we. How did the change come around? Well when you play live you have to rock you know, you have to be energetic, you can't play ballads all the time. So we just decided we wanted to make the songs a little harder instead of soft. Bigger variety. We always thought we had to follow a certain theme but I don't agree with that anymore. I think the fans deserve a wider variety of ...

It 's great to talk to you Yeah we finally get to connect. How's everything down there? Great actually. Where about are you, in Melbourne? I'm in Tasmania No kidding, you're way down there, eh? You know where it is, that's a plus. Yeah well I've heard rumors. haha. Beautiful. Very beautiful actually. It's a little like Vancouver. I'm living in Hobart, which is the capital. Kind of mountainous right? Very mountainous, very green. A river up the middle of the city, bridge over it. I'd love to get there. Do Tasmanian devils really exist? Absolutely they do. Aren't they like badgers? Sort of I guess, closest comparison anyway. You wouldn't want to pick em up though. Very vicious creature, they'll take your face of! Wow. You know I'd really like to get down there. I find it quite absurd that we've had a Number 1 record there and a couple of Top 5 records and we've never been down there. ...

Steelhouse Lane - Keith Slack (1999)

Hey Keith, I haven't seen much info on you out there, so we might go right back and get the basics from ya! You are based in Texas, right? Always been a Texan? Yes, I'm currently living in Beaumont, TX. Born and raised here, I feel blessed to have grown up in such a musically rich area that such musicians as Billy Gibbons, Janis Joplin and Edgar & Johnny Winter to name a few, came from. When did you start singing? Well, I actually started playing drums first at the age of four. I never wanted to be the front man, I hated the way my voice sounded at the time. I was more or less talked into it by friends and a few beers of course. I guess that was around 1995. Shortly after that I met Jonathan Grell and we formed Mudpie. Who were your influences growing up? My parents took me to see Three Dog Night when I was four and it was all over after that. I remember begging for Frampton Comes Alive, which I received for my sixth birthday, and then it was the usuals...Kiss, Hendrix etc... And now - are differences in what influences ...

Can you believe it's been 5 years? No I can't, that's a long time. Time is just flying by, moving too quick for me. I can remember when I brought this! Yeah, I can remember doing the House of Lords record and that was in '89 Still some of my favourite albums I must say. So what are you doing right now? Well right now I a have a business in Florida and I'm working also with my wife Robin Beck. She's got a new record coming out in 4 weeks or so. Well the promotions starts in about 4 days. I haven't heard about it yet? Well you will soon. I did some work, some background vocals for her. Basically I have a music company that I'm working with, me and my friend Mark Baker. Your old ...

Rubber - Harry Hess (1999)

Hey Harry. So the album is called Rubber then? Yep! So the album is called Rubber - maybe that's what you are going to call yourselves now for outside Japan? Yeah. We decided to change the name for everywhere except Japan, cause things are going so well for us in Japan, but we thought a good tie in would be to produce the same album cover and call the album Rubber. Sure, that makes for a smooth transition then doesn't it? Well hopefully, yeah..haha. Love the Rubber ducky by the way. Haha thanks! Canadian release date? Not until the New Year. They are going to be starting to go to radio in Jan - so either late Feb. or beginning of March release. It's going to be quite staggered because the Harem Scarem record isn't coming out anywhere but Japan. So we are really going to be concentrating getting things in motion for this release for Rubber and because it's a new thing they want to have a long build up time to get things organized. And we are also going to be working on other territories that we have let slip in the last few years. We are ...

John Sykes (1999)

My interview with John Sykes was more of a chat session! It was pretty laid back and I have basically run through his career, of which I am a big fan. There is a few interesting moments, especially when David Coverdale is discussed. Before you get into it a few updates from a brief chat with John last week. The album will indeed still have some elements of hip-hop, but not on every track and it will not be a George Lynch. I told John about that album and that is not what he is doing. It will mix elements of the classic Sykes sound with the new. Also out is the chance of doing any work with David Lee Roth (discussed below). John Kalodner was putting something together but is now unwilling to involve David further after the two met just a couple of weeks ago. That's about the update, besides the new album will be out in September-(ish) - now enjoy the interview! John! So how's things? Good, going very well Excellent. You've got a new record just about in the can? Well I'm working on it, I'm about two thirds of the way through it currently. ...

John Waite (1999)

A year on from my first Interview with John Waite and at a much more likable hour of the day - I caught up with the AOR legend via phone to his new Los Angeles home. More informal this time around, I really enjoyed this interview and thought John's replies were relaxed and quite funny in places. See what you think! Hey John. Andrew - how are you doing? Very well thanks. Yourself? Well I just knocked a big hole out of my guitar, trying to pick it up! Pretty good though - the sun's shining out here and everything's hunky dory! It's been a while since we had our last chat. Yeah, was that the one where it was like 3a.m. and you were sitting in front of a wood heater or something? That was me! Hahaha. Are you in the same place? Yeah, except this time it is a decent hour (midday) and it's summer, so I am not freezing my ass off! Yeah, it's tomorrow there isn't it? That's it! So you are in LA now - what inspired you to move out to LA? Well I was on the second single from my last album ...

Jim Peterik (1999)

February 1999 A chat with the AOR song writing legend that is Jim Peterik. Jim has been playing in bands since the late 60's and is still going as strong as ever today. From the Ides Of March to a string of hits with Survivor, to his behind the scenes song writing with 38 Special, David Carl, Captive Heart and Fergie Frederiksen, to his new solo project World Stage, Jim has without doubt achieved legend status. Find out what Jim had to say when I spoke with him by phone a short time ago... So Jim, I will take you back a couple of years if you don't mind. No problem. The band was obviously at the top of it's game in the early to mid 80's and suddenly your lead vocalist Dave leaves. That was a tough break.. Ell it was. Dave was the original singer and we loved Dave. Still do. He has a great voice. He obviously sung our biggest hit, eye of the tiger and a lot of the early days in Chicago when we were building the following up and playing a lot of the clubs, Dave was the man. In fact the rumour is that ...

Giant - Dann Huff (1999)

After many attempts at getting Dann on the phone, I was finally able to last week for a brief chat in between recording sessions in a Nashville studio. What you read may not be exactly what you wanted to hear, but at least the door is open to the chance of a new Giant record...maybe!   Hey Dann. Have you got a few minutes to talk? I sure do. I appreciate your time, thank you. Well it's great to get you on the phone. Yeah, sorry it's taken so long. No problem, it's just great to be able to talk to you. So how's life? Fine. You know, working ahead every day. Doing what seems like the same thing…but somehow you seem to make some headway and over a period of time you look back and see what you've done and it's more than you think when you are doing it. Well you've got quite an impressive body of work if I might say so, both as a producer and as a session guy now. Yeah well the session stuff has definitely been the predominant. Are you enjoying the producing side of it? Yeah it's kinda always ...

Glenn Hughes (1998(

Glenn hughes is one of those legendary vocalists that others measure themselves by. I have been a fan since several years ago, I was introduced to him by my bud Peter, who joins me in this fairly open conversation with the man himself. I had zero questions written out, instead opting for an open chat which hopefully you will find equally as open and honest. Glenn Hughes it seems...is on a mission! Now what's going on man? Well have you got some time to chat? Yeah Great that'd be awesome. My best buddy here, like I said is a 20 year fan, he's just popped out and hopefully he'll be here before I get off the phone because if he doesn't get a chance to talk to you he's gonna absolutely bloody kill me! So how's things? Man they're never better for me. Things right now in my life are possibly…well I guess you've heard people say this before 'oh man things are going great', but you know it's like when everything is good, it's not just like the music's good, or your relationship with this person is good, for me right now it's a most spiritual time for ...

Joe Lynn Turner (1998)

Joe Lynn Turner: The Usual Suspect. Joe Lynn Turner talks about his new solo album, life with Richie, nursing Yngwie and some other great stories! Thanks to Ron Higgins for his work transcribing this interview!     Hey Joe, Nice to talk to you. Right. I appreciate your time. No, I appreciate your time. I mean, what took us so long to get on the phone and do an interview? I'm not sure. I don't know, because I love your site. I'm always on it. Thank you. I'm always checking things and checking new releases and who's doing what to whom. Honestly I am because I really do appreciate your take on what's good, what's not good, and so on. Well, hopefully I get it right most of the time. Oh, I think you do. That's what I mean, most people get it wrong most of the time, so you're on the other end of the spectrum. Thank you, Joe. I appreciate that. I mean that. No kidding. I'm not just kissing your ass. I'm not. I'm just saying, I check and see what you do. I listen to sound bytes and I go, “Hmm, I think Andrew's on ...

Danny Wilde (1998)

If given the task of listing my favourite ever songs, there is almost no chance of it happening. But I can name a few of them. Those are the songs that no matter how many times I play them, I never ever tire of them. One of these such songs belongs to Danny Wilde. 'Time Runs Wild' is a one in a million tune that made me a life long fan of Danny. So it was quite a great pleasure to be able to catch up with him on the release of his new transitional album. Here's what happened: Hey Danny, it's Andrew from Australia Hey Andrew…. how ya doing? I wasn't sure what time you were going to call. Yeah ( laughs ) I kinda left it a bit confused in Jill's mind there. Because it's pretty early….and I thought I better stick to the time she set up for me! So what time is it there then…like 5 in the morning? Yeah 5am. So how are you? Great, fine. I saw your webpage. Looks great. Great, so you're online then? Yeah. Did you ever see my web page? Look I did, I got a sampler of the album from ...

Ian Gillan (1998)

I was sitting at home when the phone rang. Andrew please...Yes, that's me...Ian Gillan here....sure Ian, yeah how are you?... Now that caught me off guard big time, but I managed to compose myself 2 days later for an interview. Ian was one of the most intelligent and interesting people I have spoken to. I would love more time someday to discuss things in greater depth, but for now, see what you think! Hello Andrew. Have I got the right time? You bet! How are you? Where are you calling from? I am looking out of my hotel window over the Bay Of Naples. I am in Italy. Fantastic! Yeah, it is pretty spectacular. I am actually recovering. They make a brew here called Strager. It is a liqueur, and it means the witch! I think it had one too many last night! haha. One too many Witches? Yeah, one too many of the Witches brew. haha. So you are out now on the Deep Purple Abandon tour? Yeah we just kicked off in Istanbul, where I called you from the other day. We are going to be on the road for a year I guess. Maybe 15 months. ...

Neal Schon (1998)

Neal, how are you man? I'm fine how are you Fantastic thanks. Its great to talk to you finally! Great. How's the tour going? The tours going great, we had our first show in Marin County - a little dress rehearsal. It went really great, and people were really raving about it. And tonight we start our first show here in Tokyo. First show tonight is it? Yeah, You must be really buzzed then?!! We are really excited about it, and we got so much great feedback from the first show, that now I am not so much worried about it. I got some great responses myself. So it has been 10 years off the road. Suddenly you have a new singer out front. What is it like? It's a little like we are reborn again. The guy that we got, we couldn't have got a better replacement. Actually because we have so much old material that we need to play, that the fans want to hear, otherwise I don't see the purpose of going out and doing Journey. Our 'Greatest Hits' is probably the biggest record we ever had. And it continues to sell and be played on the radio. ...

Dare - Darren Wharton (1998)

So Darren, great show. Well, you know it was something we had only put together in the last couple of days. We were trying to get the whole band to do it, but it was all a bit too... Hard? Yeah! well, we would love to come out and do it as a whole band, but it is the financial side of it, and the rehearsal side of it, obviously you need a lot more rehearsals with a full band, and we only got this together in the last couple of days. Great response from the crowd here. Yeah, very kind, yeah. So the record has got chart entry in Sweden, things are looking good? Yeah, it's okay. Doing a record like this with people like Mario is great because all you can try and do is your best. it's not like a massive budget, and we are all trying to do things to do it, because we believe in it, and want to do our best. It's not like an A&M sort of thing, where you have unlimited this and unlimited that. I really do appreciate being with people like Mario and Magnus, because they are in ...
