Time flies by.

Nearly three decades have passed since the foundation of JADED HEART. The paths separated in 2004 after fourteen crazy years.

Due to requests, Michael started touring Europe in 2017 with a selection of JADED HEART´S best songs between 1990 and 2004.

Never say never!

The phenomenal response led Michael to the decision to go one step further. He wrote dozens of songs for 'MBJH'. Twelve of them made it to FEELS LIKE YESTERDAY.

The typical AOR / MELODIC ROCK alternates with acoustic songs, powerful up-tempo numbers and beautiful ballads.

FEELS LIKE YESTERDAY is a continuation of the style of the albums until 2004.

F.L.Y. was produced again in the RMB STUDIOS, Duisburg.
The album will be released on October 25th, 2019 on RMB Records.

A small European tour starts at the same time as the release.

WORK OF ART 'Exibits' Arrives Nov 9; Debut Video Launched

News Feed

“Exhibits” has been in the works for more than a year and a half, but will finally get unleashed to the legions of hungry melodic rock fans that this band has enraptured with their first three albums. "It’s been a long time indeed, five years!” says guitarist and producer Robert Sall. "Funny enough, it didn’t seem that way. Everyone in the band was busy doing their own thing and it wasn’t until mid-2017 when Serafino [Perugino, President Frontiers Records] asked us about our plans for a new album and it hit us that, it REALLY was about time. So we spent the better part of 2018 writing and recording it and here we are!"

Work Of Art debuted in February 2008 with the release of their album “Artwork”. Coming out of nowhere, the album immediately struck a chord with melodic rock aficionados around the world. With a sound inspired by genre greats like Toto, Giant, and Journey, Work Of Art quickly established themselves as one of the most promising newcomers in the genre. Soon after their debut, WOA guitarist and main composer Robert Sall joined W.E.T, the project featuring Jeff Scott Soto and Erik Martensson from Eclipse, thus immediately cementing his status as a star in the genre!

Expectations for the follow-up album, “In Progress” were sky high. Work of Art lived up to the hype, entering the Swedish album charts at number 30 upon release of the album. The next step for the band was to start performing live, which they did for the first time in Madrid, Spain in January 2012 and followed that performance with several other shows in various European countries. Third album “Framework” followed in 2014 and kept the momentum going for the band which, simply put, became the top new AOR band from Europe.

“Exhibits” is therefore the logical next step for WOA, an album which encompasses all that they have managed to create until now. Offering another bunch of unforgettable songs with soaring melodies (courtesy of singer Lars Säfsund) and amazing instrumental prowess (offered by Robert and Herman), "Exhibits" will thrill fans of the band and of the genre as a whole. "Like always, when Herman, Lars and I get together, it sounds like us, it sounds like Work of Art,” tells Sall. "However, with this record I tried to bring out more ”old school AOR” influences and get rid of some of the West Coast influences that were on our previous albums. I wanted it to be an AOR album, not a melodic rock album, not a West Coast album, just a classic AOR sounding album, start to finish!"

Overall this is certainly Work of Art’s most up-tempo and straight ahead album thus far, but – as it should be – some unbelievable softer moments are there as well. One notable highlight, legendary keyboard player Vince DiCola (author of the immortal “Training Montage” piece on the Rocky IV soundtrack) is a special guest on “This Isn’t Love.”

If you are an AOR fan this is a record you simply cannot miss!

The Dark Element featuring Anette Olzon & Jani Liimatainen Announce Second Album "Songs The Night Sings" Out November 8th via Frontiers Music Srl! Video For Title Track Out Now!

THE DARK ELEMENT is a musical project featuring vocalist Anette Olzon (ex-Nightwish) and Finnish guitarist and songwriter Jani Liimatainen (Insomnium, Cain's Offering). November 8th will see the release of their second album, entitled "Songs The Night Sings". Today, the band presents a video for the album's title track, which you can see below.

“Songs The Night Sings” takes off where the self-titled debut left off, with immaculate vocals from Anette and fabulous anthems written by Jani.

"It’s a thrill that we’re releasing yet another album and for me it’s been even easier to record this one since me and Jani now know each other really well. For me, this album is bigger and better and I believe the ones who liked the first one will really like this one too. All I can say is that I already long to do another album. Hep hep!" says Anette.

Jani adds, "I think the album is very heavy, but still hyper melodic, and this time we are even exploring new musical territories we didn't on the previous album. Now that me and Anette have one album together under our belts, we have found the style we want to pursue and also the ideal way of working together. Given all this, I think it's safe to say that with this album you'll get even more of what made the first album so good, only it's gonna be bigger, better and bolder!"

THE DARK ELEMENT made their live debut in June 2018 at the Sweden Rock Festival in Sölvesborg, Sweden. They also completed a short Japanese tour and performed at the Frontiers Rock Sweden festival in October at Fryshuset Klubben in Stockholm. More tour dates are planned for this upcoming album, so expect to see the band on stage again soon.

Since word of this project initially got out, fans were frothing at the mouth with anticipation for its arrival. And no wonder considering the talent involved! Anette is widely known for being the fabulous voice on the hit albums from Nightwish, “Dark Passion Play” and “Imaginareum”. Jani has recently been busy in Insomnium as well as Cain's Offering alongside Stratovarius singer Timo Kotipelto, but left a deep mark on the minds of all Power Metal fans thanks to his time in Sonata Arctica.

The resulting debut album released in November 2017 took no time to prove that the resume of the individuals involved did indeed add up to the musical output.

VANDEN PLAS Release ‘The Ghost Xperiment – Awakening’ on October 11

German progressive metal masters Vanden Plas Official will release "The Ghost Xperiment - Awakening” on October 11

Watch the music video for 'The Ghost Xperiment’ NOW

The album is part one of a two part concept album, with the second album to be released in 2020.

The quintet's ninth regular studio production, “The Ghost Xperiment - AwakenIng” continues to underscore the high artistic level of musicianship and lyrical creativity that the band have sustained for so long. Based on an actual documented paranormal experiment, the main character in the story, created by frontman Andy Kuntz, is Gideon Grace, a man who has to fight constantly for his life against the relentless shadows of the “House of Rain” as he wanders through France. Burdened with a heavy weight of sorrow following the agonizing death of his beloved Ivy, Gideon's pain is also his driving force in the war with his demons. He expands his knowledge with books he finds in the library of a German school of metaphysics. It is here that he reads about secret teachers and parapsychological experiments, which become an important foundation from which he can fight against the creatures of darkness. When it comes to the first showdown with said creatures, rather than finding peace, Gideon's battle tears open a hole deep into the abyss of Hell.'

Musically, Vanden Plas once again offers a perfect combination of heavy and melodic, while the orchestral arrangements here are more in the background compared to the last studio album. At the same time, the quintet comes closer to its original roots, such as “The God Thing” or “Far Off Grace”: more progressive elements in the songs, similar to what one knows from those earlier releases. The six, mostly long, pieces achieve their impressive and fascinating effect through a very band-oriented arrangement, so that the clear and intensive urgency of the songs shines through naturally. The listener is captivated from the start, first by songs that each deserve to be called epic and second through the story told through the lyrics.

This recording is once again a product of the band's trusted collaborations with sound engineer Markus Teske at Bazement Studios.

“The Ghost Xperiment - AwakenIng”, a phenomenal long player, once again proves why Vanden Plas are among prog metal's elite class.

Tracklisting:
1. Cold December Night

6. The Ghost Xperiment

Back in the year that President Kennedy was assassinated and the Beatles first song entered the UK charts, Mick Devine was born in Bulawayo, Southern Rhodesia.
Music was always an important part of the Devine family life with his Dad a semi-professional drummer and frequent late night band rehearsals in the home, proved a source of inspiration to the impressionable Mick.
He always had a good singing voice and from a young age was singled out to perform, with impromptu solo school performances through a number of choirs and school bands, the desire to be a professional musician was growing.

Roll on through the teenage years and Mick has moved from the now Zimbabwe to start a new life in Johannesburg South Africa. He was playing in a local band UC27 as a drummer / singer when he met Keith McFarlane from the award winning South African pop group Face to Face who at the time were planning a move to the UK to further their music careers. Mick was invited to join the band as a drummer and Seven was born.

In the UK as the band developed, it was agreed that Mick was a much better singer than drummer and he needed to come out from behind the drums to be the lead singer.
Mick’s first performance as a frontman was at a showcase for CBS Records in London in front of the A&R guru Muff Winwood. Unfortunately no record deal followed.

Shortly afterwards the band secured a support slot on their first nationwide tour with 90’s pop group Brother Beyond where valuable live experience, and a sizeable fan base were earned. It attracted the attention of Phillip Schofield who at the time was a Radio 1 DJ, and started to play their demo’s on his show.
Whilst on this tour, the wife of the head of Polydor Records came to one of the shows and the story goes that she went home and told her husband that he needed to sign the band. Whether true or not a record deal was offered and signed.

This would prove to be the undoing of Seven, as for many years they had been crafting their sound very much in an AOR rock vein and had a number of really credible recordings and tracks. This was around the time when Soul to Soul burst on the scene and the AOR sound was becoming a little out of fashion in the UK. The band had a real ‘Boy Band’ image and their management and record label pushed them in that direction with the hope that it would break them into a larger market.

John Parr was secured to produce the bands two single EP’s, both of which achieved top 75-chart status and further tours supporting The Monkey’s, Jason Donavan and Richard Marx followed. But as with so many bands without major chart success, the record label dropped them before an album was recorded.

Fast forward through 25 years of bringing up a family and earning a living, to a chance conversation between Khalil Turk (Escape Records) and Pat Davey, the original Seven bass player which led to an offer to finally record the Seven album that should have been released in the 90’s.
Sevens first album ’7’ was released to critical acclaim and was followed two years later with a second album ‘Shattered’, an album of newly written original tracks that was equally well received.

During this period Khalil introduced Mick to Steve Morris (Lonerider / Heartland / Ian Gillan Band) and a song writing partnership developed. Over a number of years they wrote numerous songs in a number of musical styles but all tied together with memorable melodies, lyric’s and killer guitar licks.

Once agin Khalil introduced the awesome American producer & musician Brian J Anthony (Lonerider / Steve Walsh /Overland) into this partnership and the result is the first solo album for Mick Devine called ‘Hear Now’ which is due for release on the 18th October 2019 on the Escape Music label.

DOWN 'N' OUTZ Announce Album 'This Is How We Roll' October 11

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 15, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- DOWN 'N' OUTZ, the project headed up by Def Leppard frontman and 2019 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Joe Elliott, are set to release their third studio album, This Is How We Roll, on October 11, 2019 (UMe).

The band, featuring The Quireboys' Paul Guerin (Guitar), Guy Griffin (Guitar) and Keith Weir (keyboards), plus Share Ross (Bass, ex Vixen) and Phil Martini (drums, Wayward Sons), takes a different approach on This Is How We Roll to their previous album. This new album only features one cover version (The Tubes "White Punks On Dope) - alongside eleven original Joe Elliott penned tracks.

Guitarist Guy Griffin says, "(This Is How We Roll) is absolutely fantastic, probably one of the best records I've worked on. It doesn't sound like Leppard or the first two Down n Outz records. It's kind of all the stuff Joe grew up with, a lot of piano type stuff, a bit Elton John, one track a bit 10cc, a couple of good rockers… a real mix of stuff. Joe's voice sounds amazing and it's great fun to do."

Joe Elliott says, "Boy, has this has been a long time coming?! Recorded in infrequent bursts of activity over a 5-year period whenever our respective motherships allowed, I'm extremely proud of what we've achieved with this album. I'm blessed to have worked with such a superb bunch of musicians on this collection of songs. To a man, and woman (!), they completely got my vision of what I wanted us to convey on this record & as usual, working with a world class producer/engineer in Ronan McHugh has guaranteed the sound of the record to be top notch! I couldn't be more proud."

Along with the announcement of the new studio album, Down 'n' Outz also release the rock out of title track and lead single "This Is How We Roll", available to listen to HERE.

From breathless opener "Another Man's War" to the lush "Last Man Standing", to the epic six minute "Let It Shine", this is an album that draws on all the influences that have shaped both Joe Elliott and the previous Down 'n' Outz albums to create a stunning collection of original songs. This Is How We Roll was produced by Joe Elliott with co-production by Ronan McHugh. The album was recorded at Joe Elliott's own studio Joe's Garage.

The album will be available on CD, LP, digitally and also on limited edition 12" Picture Disc LP. This Is How We Roll is now available to pre-order via: https://DownNOutz.lnk.to/ThisIsHowWeRoll

The Down 'n' Outz project was born in 2009 when Mott The Hoople reformed and asked long-time friend and fan Joe Elliott to get involved. Joe formed the Down 'n' Outz with Paul, Guy, Keith and Phil. Together they looked to bring songs by Mott The Hoople and spin off projects of Mott, Ian Hunter and British Lions to a wider audience.

In 2009 Down 'n' Outz supported Mott The Hoople at one of the band's five Hammersmith Apollo shows. The fan interest eventually led to the band looking to put together an album and 2011 saw the release of the critically acclaimed debut My Re-Generation through Mailboat Records (Joe Perry, Walter Becker, Chris Isaak, Jeff Bridges). My Re-Generation included the singles "England Rocks" and "Overnight Angels," that reached No. 4 and No. 1 respectively on the U.S. Media Base Rock chart -keeping Eric Clapton's new single off the top of the chart for 2 weeks. The band then released a live DVD taken from those initial shows called Live at Hammersmith Apollo. A second studio album The Further Adventures of… was released in 2014 and featured the single "Rock and Roll Queen". New bassist Share Ross (Vixen) debuted on 2017's live album and DVD The Further Live Adventures Of…

A stunning live act - having toured with the likes of Paul Rogers across the UK (Including The Royal Albert Hall) and festival performances including High Voltage and Planet Rockstock, Down 'n' Outz are planning live dates to support This Is How We Roll.

6CD/DVD Collection Includes A Newly Remastered Version Of The Top 10 Album, Expanded With Unreleased Studio Recordings, The Band’s 1990 Headlining Set At Castle Donington, Music Videos And A New Interview With David Coverdale

Four Different Versions Will Be Available From Rhino On October 4

LOS ANGELES – Whitesnake scored the band’s third consecutive platinum record with its eighth studio album, Slip of the Tongue. Originally released in November 1989, it peaked at number 10 on the U.K. and U.S. album charts thanks largely to its two Top 40 hits – “Fool For Your Loving” and “The Deeper The Love.” The fan favorite turns 30 this year and Rhino is celebrating with several new versions, including a colossal seven-disc boxed set.

SLIP OF THE TONGUE: 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION will be available on October 4 for $74.98. The 6CD/DVD collection includes a newly remastered version of the album, plus unreleased studio recordings, audio and video of the band’s performance at the 1990 Monsters of Rock festival, and a new interview with Whitesnake founder and lead singer, David Coverdale. It comes in a 60-page hardbound book filled with rare memorabilia from the era.  For a limited time, Rhino.com will offer the Super Deluxe edition paired with a lithograph signed by David Coverdale for $84.98.

Other versions of Slip of the Tongue will also be available the same day, including double-CD Deluxe Edition, which includes the newly remastered album expanded with a selection of rare and unreleased bonus tracks ($24.98) and a double-LP Deluxe Edition, which features the newly remastered album along with a selection of unique bonus tracks ($31.98).  A single-disc version ($9.98) includes the newly remastered album, along with single B-Sides plus alternate recordings. The music will be available digitally as well.

Following the 8x platinum success of their eponymous album in 1987, Whitesnake returned two years later with Slip of the Tongue. At the time, the band included Coverdale, bassist Rudy Sarzo, drummer Tommy Aldridge, and guitarists Adrian Vandenberg and Steve Vai. Vandenberg and Coverdale co-wrote all but one song on the album, but Vandenberg couldn’t record them in the studio at the time due to a hand injury. To fill the void, Vai joined the band for the album and tour.

SLIP OF THE TONGUE: 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION features unreleased versions of every album track, as well as monitor mixes for the album recorded in 1989. In addition, the collection includes nearly two dozen previously unreleased tracks taken from the session tapes that highlight working versions of album tracks and more. The set also includes the CD debut of Slip of the Tongue: The Wagging Tongue Edition. Released exclusively on vinyl in 1989, it features Coverdale being interviewed about each track followed by the song.

SLIP OF THE TONGUE: 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION finishes big with Whitesnake’s 1990 headlining performance at the Monsters of Rock Festival at Castle Donington on CD and DVD. The DVD also includes three music videos, all of which have been carefully restored and remixed in 5.1 Surround Sound for the first time ever. A new promo video for the track “Sweet Lady Luck”, made exclusively for this set, a behind the scenes look at the making of the album, plus a newly recorded interview with Coverdale and Vandenberg rounds out the DVD.

BAND WILL TOUR IN SUPPORT OF UPCOMING RELEASE WITH
APPEARANCES PLANNED IN BOTH THE UNITED STATES AND EUROPE

New York, NY --- Music Theory Recordings / Mascot Label Group and Flying Colors have announced the global release of the band’s third studio album THIRD DEGREE on October 4. The band’s self-titled debut launched a career that has had fans across The World anticipating the magic that emanates from the studio each and every time the five members reconvene. That title was released on March 26, 2012 and was celebrated on both sides of the Atlantic with a Top Ten debut on the Billboard Hard Rock chart, alongside an entry at #11 on the BBC’s Rock Album chart.  SECOND NATURE followed in September, 2014 and was celebrated worldwide. Third Degree will be available as a CD Digipack, limited edition 2LP 180 gram blue vinyl in a gatefold sleeve (w/ download card), a 2LP 180 gram black vinyl in a gatefold sleeve (w/ download card), and a limited edition box set featuring CD, 40 page photobook, two coasters, and a bonus disc with six tracks.

In chemistry, when certain galvanizing elements come together, they become quite explosive. In music, when certain galvanizing artists come together, they become Flying Colors. In fact, whenever the five gentlemen who encompass Flying Colors — guitarist Steve Morse (Deep Purple, Dixie Dregs, ex-Kansas), drummer Mike Portnoy (Winery Dogs, ex-Dream Theater, Transatlantic), keyboardist/vocalist Neal Morse (Transatlantic, ex-Spock’s Beard, and a prolific solo artist in his own right), bassist Dave LaRue (Dixie Dregs, ex-Joe Satriani), and powerhouse vocalist and songwriter Casey McPherson (Alpha Rev, The Sea Within) — are able to conjoin their collective talents, the result is a sweet sonic bouillabaisse that reflects where their inherent mastery of melody intersects with top-shelf progressive musicianship.

And now, Flying Colors soar to even loftier heights with Third Degree, their third studio album in a decade.  Third Degreebuilds upon the genre-bending momentum of 2012’s self-titled Flying Colorsand the aural-template ascension of 2014’s Second Nature. From the skittery psychedelic/classical turnaround of the lead single “More” to the Beach Boys-meet-Asia vibe of “Love Letter” to the deep emotionality of the album-ending, prog-leaning epic “Crawl,” the nine tracks that comprise Third Degreesignify just how much Flying Colors are willing to explore new frontiers. “There’s a lot of ear candy sprinkled throughout every song,” observes Mike Portnoy, “and each one takes you on a little journey. As albums go, Third Degreeis a complete piece that I don’t think ever overstays its welcome. I think it’s an enjoyable ride from start to finish.”

Third Degreecontinues to build upon the deep-rooted musical connection the members of Flying Colors established on their first two boundary-stretching albums. “There’s a real special chemistry between the five of us,” Portnoy confirms. “We keep getting better and better as we get more comfortable and more familiar with each other, and the music itself keeps getting more and more mature.” Adds Steve Morse, “This one, dare I say it, explores new ground for the band. One of my favorites, ‘Geronimo,’ has an upbeat, jazzy, heavy, melodic feel all at once. We just do what makes us smile and sounds good, instead of wondering how critics or program directors will like it. It makes for the best music!”

Casey McPherson concurs with his fellow bandmates by noting, “What Third Degreereally proves to me is that we have our own sound. There are no egos in this band, and we all want the best parts to come out, which is such a joy for me to participate in. I think that really allows people’s uniqueness to show through.” In other words, when five individual musical elements become one, good things inevitably happen. Clarifies Portnoy, “When prog guys like Neal and me join instrumental guys like Steve and Dave, with Casey being the glue in the middle, we’re able to write music that is not only incredibly musical, but also incredibly accessible and melodic.”

That said, Third Degreedid not come effortlessly, nor too quickly. “It took time — but that’s the thing with Flying Colors,” Portnoy admits. “It’s very hard to get the five of us in the same room at the same time. But once we do, it flows so easily.” The first sessions for Third Degreetook place at Steve Morse’s studio in Florida in December 2016, wherein seven songs were written. From there, the bandmembers had to scatter back to their other personal and professional obligations, eventually reconvening two full years later in December 2018, when three more tracks were added to the overall Third Degreemix. (The tenth track, “Waiting for the Sun,” will be made available in forthcoming special editions.)

At this point, Portnoy deployed to Neal Morse’s Nashville studio to cut his drum tracks, while Neal and Casey often got together on Skype, as they’ve done in the past, to hone the lyrics. “Casey and Neal bring incredible levels of humanity and emotion to the lyrics,” admires Portnoy. For his part, McPherson marvels at Neal’s harmonic talents: “That’s really Neal’s brilliance — his ability to stylistically approach harmonies in so many different ways. It just blows my mind every time. It’s like Christmas for me whenever I get Neal’s harmony tracks!” Not only that, but the three-part harmonies between Casey, Neal, and Mike — a hallmark of many a Flying Colors track — again shine through on Third Degree. “It’s an important element of what we do,” agrees Portnoy. “Casey is usually the lead vocalist with Neal and me behind him, though we sometimes switch it up. Either way, the three-part vocals are definitelya key part of the Flying Colors sound.”

As a songwriter, McPherson is never afraid to confront his feelings head-on, whether it’s the nostalgic bent of “Last Train Home” or the raw, relatable universality of “You Are Not Alone.” In short, Third Degreeis a very human record to its core. “For me, music is a platform to sort through the things I’m going through, and it gives the listener the opportunity to do that too,” McPherson believes. “I try to be acutely honest, metaphorically, so that other people can find their own story in our songs — like I hope they will with ‘Crawl.’ Sometimes, we have to be reminded that life is about the overall ebb and flow.” Portnoy agrees that “Crawl” is his personal favorite track on the album. “The minute we finished writing it, I knewit was the album closer, hands down. I knew it right there and then,” he emphatically reports. “It’s the one new song of ours I most look forward to playing live.”

To that end, Flying Colors have booked nine live dates on their calendar, mostly split evenly between the U.S. and Europe — in essence, to perform as many shows for their fans as they can possibly fit in between their many other band and touring commitments. “There’s an evolution happening within our sound on this record, and I’m excited to explore that onstage,” McPherson notes. “We’ve seen that evolution start with this record, and we’re going to see it happen even more so on the fourth record, in terms of capturing all our beautiful differences.”

Another progression has been the band’s use of technology to provide industry-leading sound. Third Degreewas engineered with the award-winning Harmonic Phrase Analysis and Restoration (HPAR) technology. Developed by the band’s resident mad scientist, Bill Evans (also rumored to have approached the fantastic five about forming the band), he created HPAR based on the group’s performance styles — resulting in unprecedented fidelity. Flying Colors regular producer Rich Mouser (The Neal Morse Band, Transatlantic) then crafted a sumptuous mix in his inimitable style.

Portnoy agrees the future of Flying Colors looks quite bright indeed. “Our mission statement when we came together is still the same now,” he affirms. “It’s the same five guys with extremely different musical personalities and backgrounds coming together into a giant melting pot where it all comes out on the other end with music that’s accessible, melodic, deep, and colorful. That’s always been the goal of this band, and so far, I think we’re three for three.”
With Third Degree, Flying Colors continue to fire on all cylinders — and, in the process, they also handily prove the third time’s an unquestionable sonic charm.

Hanover Fist’s self-titled debut album might just be one of the greatest ‘80s heavy metal albums you’ll ever hear. If you’ve never heard it before then prepare to have your head re-arranged by its truly explosive power. Escape Music now proudly re-issues the original Canadian issued version on CD for the first time, correctly reinstating that version’s running order with the added bonus of liner notes by Dave Reynolds and the full involvement of vocalist Frank Zirone.

The album first appeared in 1985 and became a top selling import in the UK. The Toronto based outfit should’ve gone on to greater heights, but sadly the band’s story is an all too familiar one of outstanding ability and a bright future being all too quickly blighted and ultimately cut short by baffling record label and managerial decisions.

Hanover Fist’s debut LP was released in Canada in early 1985 and featured one of the most imaginative pieces of artwork ever to grace an album sleeve. Take a closer look and you’ll see a vinyl album under construction! It was all the work of Dean Motter (who could count LP covers for Zon, Loverboy, Anvil, Sheriff, Chilliwack, The Nylons, Triumph, Toronto, Lee Aaron and The Arrows on his CV up to that point).

Sadly, Motter’s impressive work wasn’t around long enough to be admired by as many as it should. There were some strange goings on behind the scenes and the album was no longer available for sale domestically after a mere two months. Upon the advice of MCA in the States, Frank signed with a US based management company and the album was released in America a few months after the original Canadian version had disappeared from view; albeit with some pretty sweeping changes being made to it before it hit retail; not least the album’s artwork being changed from Dean Motter’s engineering masterpiece to a depiction of a snarling black panther. Not only was the album re-titled ‘Hungry Eyes’ (so named after one of the songs on the original release) and the running order overhauled with two songs removed and a cover of Bryan Adams’ ‘Fits Ya Good’ added as the revised album’s opening track, but the band name was shortened to Hanover!

“The manager we hooked up with had something of a political conscience,” Frank diplomatically notes. “This was around the time when the PMRC were making noises in the States, so that’s why the cover got changed and we lost the ‘Fist’ part of the band name.”

Dates with Autograph, Heaven, a three month stint with Saxon and selective shows on their own, including gigs in Missouri and Arkansas followed, but the band would ultimately run out of steam. “The original vision had been compromised with the name of the band being shortened, the album cover being changed and especially the running order of the record being vastly different to the original version,” Frank explains. “There was not much drive to continue as the whole thing had been manipulated into something completely different from what we had originally created.”

Yet now the Hanover Fist album can be enjoyed in its original form once more. “It was interrupted mid-stream the first time just as we were on a major trajectory, but we’re back and the re-mastering on this Escape Music reissue is just fantastic!” Zirone enthuses. “It’s so very close to how the original studio sessions were in sound.”

Give in to the Metal of the night!

Building upon the success of his 2016 release One Sided War, Stryper front man Michael Sweet returns with his tenth solo studio release aptly titled, “Ten.”

The new album is scheduled for release in North America on October 11th via Rat Pak Records and will also be available in Europe via Frontiers Music SRL. Ten features an all-star guest lineup that includes appearances by Jeff Loomis of Arch Enemy, Todd La Torre of Queensrÿche, Andy James, Tracii Guns of LA Guns, Rich Ward of Fozzy, Joel Hoekstra of Whitesnake, Gus G of Firewind, Howie Simon, Ethan Brosh, Marzi Montazeri, Will Hunt of Evanescence , John O’Boyle, Mike Kerr and Ian Raposa of Firstbourne and more.

On the subject of guest musicians Michael comments: “There is a different player appearing on every song. It started out where I was just going to have a couple of guest appearances on it, then I decided that it would be really interesting to bring in different players for every song. I started putting names out there and reaching out to people, and they started agreeing to do it. And then I had guys reaching out to me."

Ten is currently available for pre-order via the Rat Pak Records www.ratpakrecords.com/michaelsweet in various bundle configurations including translucent green and black splatter vinyl, cassette and hand autographed CD packages. The album also has 2 bonus tracks that appear on all configurations. Produced by Michael Sweet, Ten was recorded and mixed by Danny Bernini at the Spirithouse Recording Studio in North Hampton and was mastered by Alex Saltz.

Regarding the musical direction of the album Michael states: “I’m very excited about this release, there are old-school, straight-ahead metal ideas in the vein of Judas Priest, Dio and Iron Maiden, all the stuff I love listening to!”

As for the "Ten" album title, Sweet recently stated, "It's called 'Ten' cause it's my tenth album, and because there is a title track on there about the Ten Commandments - a really powerful song. There's real heavy stuff... It starts kind of smacking you in the face and it ends kicking you in the gut."

The track listing for Ten is:
1) Better Part of Me (featuring Jeff Loomis of Arch Enemy)
2) Lay It Down (featuring Marzi Montazeri)

Rock Candy Latest - EUROPE, SHY & OZZ

EUROPE 'THE FINAL COUNTDOWN' CANDY401

THE ENORMOUS SUCCESS of ‘The Final Countdown’ single and album, undoubtedly took the world by surprise. Who among us would have imagined that an, up until then, obscure Swedish hard rock band would have the reach and good fortune to elevate their profile to international superstar status so easily. It was a turn of events that reinforces the notion that anything can be possible as long as the stars are in alignment and the songs are undeniable.

Europe was formed during the late 70s, initially under the name of Force, before they scored a record deal with CBS and switched their name to Europe. They had recorded, as Europe, two well received albums in their native Sweden but were then taken under the wing of CBS in New York who encouraged the band to pull out all the stops for their third album. It was, in effect, a Cinderella story (albeit a seven year overnight success) and they grasped the opportunity to craft one of the greatest melodic hard rock albums of the ‘80s. On release the record faced slow progress but gradually the title track started to gain traction across the globe, hitting the top spot in several territories, selling over three million copies of the album in the USA alone.

Produced by Kevin Elson (Journey, Mr Big) and issued in March 1986, the album contains a concise and extremely well written selection of tracks, including the rousing ‘Rock The Night’, ‘Cherokee’, ‘On The Loose’, and the glorious ballad ‘Carrie’. Of course, it’s the indelible mark left by the title track that the album will be best remembered for. Look out too for some searing guitar work from John Norum.

SHY ‘BRAVE THE STORM’ CANDY413

THERE WAS AN interesting development in British rock during the mid 80s. Having moved through the traditional NWOBHM style for a while, a number of artists were developing a taste for the sound of America. Artists such as RATT, Dokken and White Lion had consistently influenced the more melodic aspects of the genre. Some British bands seemed to be enthralled by that sound so it was no wonder then that UK record labels caught on and looked to feed their American counterparts with similar acts. Stand up Airrace, Virginia Wolf, Lionheart, Strangeways and…Shy. There was no sign that Shy were in any way inferior to the American AOR groups of the day.

They had the sound, the look and the desire to take their music all the way to the top of the charts. With the emphasis on songs and melodic hooks it seemed, for a short while at least, that they could do no wrong. Singer Tony Mills possessed one of the most striking voices of the scene, a powerful mid-range which soared to a high falsetto, providing the band with a unique calling card and an identity that singled them out as a band who would go the distance if all the pieces fell into place.

Issued in 1985 and produced by Tony Platt (AC/DC, Krokus, Gary Moore), the album is a vessel for some of the best British melodic hard rock of the era. Tracks such as ‘Hold On (To Your Love)’, ‘Keep The Fires Burning’ and the brilliant ballad ‘Reflections’ are fabulous examples of just how superior the band were and how well they compared with all the other musical competition.

SPECIAL DELUXE COLLECTOR’S EDITION. Fully Remastered Audio, 6 Bonus tracks, 16 page full colour booklet, 3,500 word essay, new interview and enhanced artwork.

TRACK LISTING: 1. HOLD ON (TO YOUR LOVE) 2. MY APOLLO 3. REFLECTIONS 4. KEEP THE FIRES BURNING 5. THE HUNTER 6. BRAVE THE STORM 7. WILD WILD WOMAN 8. CAUGHT IN THE ACT 9. WAS I WRONG? BEHIND CLOSED DOORS (Live)

SHY ‘EXCESS ALL AREAS’ CANDY414

DURING THE MID-eighties Shy were perceived as one of the best hopes to ignite the British homegrown hard rock scene. They were tipped to follow in the footsteps of similar leaning melodic rock bands such as Bon Jovi and Def Leppard, who were enjoying huge success appealing to both poprock and traditional hard rock fans. With this, their third album, the band refined their sound and made a concerted attempt to square up to the challenge before them.

Evidence of their new-found focus was the selection of a world-renowned and highly respected producer; Neil Kernon, a man who had overseen many successful records, including Autograph, Dokken, Kansas and Queensrÿche. The band also seriously immersed themselves into writing and refining their material, often co-writing with the likes of Michael Bolton, Don Dokken and Bob Kulick. The result was a masterful album that certainly caused heads to turn and platitudes to spill forth.

Originally issued in January 1987, the album boasts several important tracks, and is blessed with superb production touches that made the record, at the time, extremely competitive with songs such as ‘Emergency’, ‘Young Heart’, ‘Break Down The Walls’ and the plaintive ballad ‘When The Love Is Over’. Although it’s infused with massive harmonies, precision musicianship and superb arrangements, the record is most noticeably propelled and driven by Tony Mill’s extraordinary lead vocals. It’s fair to say that this album is a perfect slice of eighties melodic hard rock, one that remains a benchmark for a style that actually still sounds fresh and relevant.

SPECIAL DELUXE COLLECTOR’S EDITION. Fully Remastered Audio, 5 Bonus tracks, 16 page full colour booklet, 3,500 word essay, new interview and enhanced artwork.

TRACK LISTING:1. EMERGENCY 2. CAN’T FIGHT THE NIGHTS 3. YOUNG HEART 4. JUST LOVE ME 5. BREAK DOWN THE WALLS 6. UNDER FIRE 7. DEVIL WOMAN 8. TALK TO ME 9. WHEN THE LOVE IS OVER 10. OZZ ‘NO PRISONERS’ CANDY385

WHEN IT COMES to tough no-nonsense hard rock then you’d have to look long and hard to find an album better than ‘No Prisoners’ by Ozz. Stuffed full of top riffs, killer songs and impressive vocals it certainly made its mark on the hard rock cognoscenti despite a lack of sales and relative obscurity. Even now, the album is given appreciative nods and familiar knowing smiles from those who have heard it. Indeed, the lack of mainstream attention seems to have given it almost mythical status in a world where praise is heaped upon even the most inconsequential records currently in circulation.

Ozz was initiated by two hugely talented individuals: Chicago born guitarist Gregg Parker and vocalist Minnesota raised Alexis T. Angel. Parker had established something of a reputation for himself backing a number of musicians and leading a recording band by the name of The Infernal Blues Machine who released an album on the London label in 1976. Despite his high profile and musical ability it wasn’t until he met Angel a few years later that sparks really began to fly. The two decided to form Ozz as a vehicle that would crystallise their desire to harness the rampant energy of Led Zeppein and Aerosmith.

Issued in 1980 on the Epic label and produced by British whiz-kid Andy Johns (Led Zeppelin, Free, Hughes Thrall) the album is a blistering collection of red-hot hard rock leaning heavily on the Plant/Page and Tyler/Perry call and response axis. Songs such ‘Sail On’, ‘Hungry Love’ and ‘Given’ Up On Love’ lead the way but there is not one weak track on this record which in itself is a major victory. Why the album failed to attract even a modicum of commercial recognition at the time is a major mystery.

SPECIAL DELUXE COLLECTOR’S EDITION. Fully Remastered Audio, 12 page booklet, 3,000 word essay, enhanced artwork

TRACK LISTING: 1. Sail On 2. Ain’t No Money 3. Givin’ Up On Love 4. Sister Madness 5. Checkin’ It Out (Baby Don’t You Cry) 6. Hungry Love 7. Dreams 8. Lonely Rider 9. Just Got Back

IF ONLY 'NO BED OF ROSES' CANDY427

IF YOU THOUGHT the making of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumours’ was fraught with difficulty then spare a thought for British melodic rockers If Only. Their trials and tribulations may not have been on the same widescreen international scale as the Mac, but the amount of frustration, angst and disappointment was probably even more crushing. Here was a band with all the promise of a bright career ahead of them that was continuously derailed, mostly through no fault of their own, unable to capitalise on their rising star status.

Formed in 1988 and driven by guitarist and talented songwriter Greg Hart (who later went on to form Cats In Space), the band was fronted by singer Jackie Bodimead who had built up a solid reputation as a member of both Girlschool and Rock Goddess, two of the most successful and well known of the all female British hard rock bands. Jackie’s voice lent the material a world class sheen that quickly attracted industry attention, led by former Yes and then Asia keyboard player Geoff Downes who signed them to his boutique label and set about producing their debut album. However, nearing completion, Jackie decided to leave the band.

Fortunately a saviour was at hand in the form of Tina Egan who stepped into Jackie’s shoes, recording new vocals and giving the project fresh life. Sadly however, the musical times had changed by then, with the likes of Nirvana forging a rough and raw sound, leaving the melodic delicacies of If Only stranded and killing all hope of scoring a meaningful release. Time, however, has done nothing but enhance the band’s music and here we present tracks from both vocalists, confirming that this record, with either singer, is indeed a buried treasure.

NARNIA 'From Darkness to Light' The 8th Studio Album Out Now

Artist:

Swedish metal band Narnia releases their 8th studio-album, From Darkness to Light. The album is released worldwide today, just over a month before touring begins in South America, along with American bands Stryper and Tourniquet.

Narnia’s new album, From Darkness to Light, is the band’s 8 studio album, and a natural sequel to the previous, self-titled album, from the band’s return and 20th anniversary in 2016.
The spark that Narnia lit on last year’s live album, We Still Believe - Made in Brazil, has followed the band into the studio, where this energy has been channeled and structured into a long parade of nine songs.

With musical roots remaining deep in melodic metal, the band has both expanded into modern metal territory, where the guitars still dominate, while allowing for 70/80’s analog synthesizers to exist in the soundscape.

The lyrics are extremely important to the band, and in true Narnia spirit, this heritage has been well managed and further refined.

From Darkness To Light has received positive response from reviewers all around the world, and recently received 1st position in Sweden Rock Magazine’s “The Jury” (4 reviewers on 9 international releases), along with a review (8 of 10) and a full page interview with the band’s singer Christian Liljegren. A great start for this new major venture for Narnia, which involves a tour that begins in South America along with American bands Stryper and Tourniquet.

Today, From Darkness To Light is available on all digital platforms, CD, and vinyl (in different colors) in collaboration with record label Sound Pollution (Europe, USA, Australia). The album is also being distributed by King Records (Asia), and by Voice Music/MusiK Records, Icarus Music and The Dove’s Voice Records (Latin America).
The album was produced by Narnia’s guitarist CJ Grimmark, mixed by the band’s sound engineer Viktor Stenquist, and mastered by Jens Bogren, Fascination Street Studios (Sepultura, Symphony X, James LaBrie [Dream Theater], and more).

AGE OF REFLECTION return on September 27th, 2019 with “A New Dawn”

In early 2013 Carl Berglund and his old bandmate Jan Skärming decided to fulfil their musical dream, writing songs reduced to its very core by 80’s rock giants. These were songs with emotional harmonies from pure British AOR, with the power of American hard rock, sprinkled with hooks from the new era of Swedish melodic rock. Joining them in the songwriting came Lars Nygren in spring 2014 (vocals), a friend of Carls since high school. When equipped with a ton of hard hitting melodic rock songs written, the missing pieces of the puzzle joined forces. They turned out to be Jonas Nordquist (lead guitar), drummer Michael Sjöö (replaced by Peppe Vikman in August 2018) and Jens Rüttgeroth on keyboards (member since October 2017). In May 2016 they picked four songs and put them onto Spotify, iTunes, and a few other places with amazing reviews and response. In August 2016, the band signed a deal with AOR Heaven for a February 2017 release, and also later with Rubicon Music Japan. “In The Heat Of The Night” was recorded at Studio Thinner, the band's own studio in Vasteras, Sweden, in the spring of 2016. It was produced by AGE OF REFLECTION but the mixing and mastering was done by Erik Mårtensson (Eclipse, W.E.T. a.o).

After the summer 2018, AoR started writing new music for their next album. AGE OF REFLECTIONS tried one of the new songs live at Rockingham festival, and the response was great! They went back into the studio and have now finished all the recordings. Again Erik Mårtensson has been doing the final magic on the album. “A New Dawn” will be released on September 27th, 2019 on AOR Heaven.

In November, AoR is going on a headlining tour in England supported by both A’priori and Atlas UK. After that there is H.E.A.T Festival in Germany. One of highlights in 2020, so far, is the HRH AOR festival in Wales in March.

Robert Tepper, hailing from Bayonne, New Jersey, came up in the late 60’s playing in garage bands down on the Jersey shore. It wasn’t until a bit later that Tepper started to get recognition as a song writer with his first top 40 hit recorded by Paul Anka, This Is Love. The song went on to earn an ASCAP award for its popularity that year and broke the top 40.

After moving to New York City, he teamed up with fellow singer Benny Mardones to help with his hit album Never Run, Never Hide. On that record was the iconic song Into The Night. In 2010 Usher released his own version of the song with a new dynamic arrangement.
It was in 1985 when Robert landed his first record deal with Scotti Brothers Records - a subsidiary of CBS. In the studio Tepper was very fortunate to have hired the expertise of grammy awarded producer Joe Chiccarelli who is known for his work with U2, Beck, Elton John and many more. In 1985 Tepper also moved to Los Angeles. It was about this time that actor and director Sylvester Stallone was taken by the song Tepper had written called No Easy Way Out. Prominently featured in the film franchise Rocky the song climbed the charts into the American top 40. Stallone, now a Tepper fan, used his song Angel of the City in his classic movie Cobra giving Tepper the title of the soundtrack kid. Also, Pat Benatar’s recording of La Bel Age off of Seven The Hard Way was another Tepper Marshall composition.

In 1996 the album No Rest For The Wounded Heart was released by MTM Music exclusively for Europe. More recently he released an album that was categorized as an acoustic record with an electric tinge in the early 2000’s called New Life Story. After a long lay off of live performances it was soon after the release of New Life Story that Tepper started doing shows in Europe. It was there that he met guitarist extraordinaire Pablo Padilla. Padilla, who is one of the premier guitarists in Spain, was soon to continue his musical journey in Los Angeles. Here he became Tepper’s music supervisor for all of his shows.

The new Robert Tepper album Better Than The Rest is a true collaboration between Tepper and Padilla. The writing and recording and mixing of this record took approximately a year. Tepper’s music has appeared in such hit films and TV shows such as South Park, Breaking Bad, Cobra, Rocky 4, and Get Hard.
