Swedish hard rock act 220 Volt returns to the scene with a new album called “Walking In Starlight”.  Anders Engberg (ex-Therion ex-Lions Share), who joined this group on late 2012, is the new voice of the band. This is his first full album with 220 Volt. Founding members Thomas Drevin and Mats Karlsson handle the guitars, and drummer Peter Hermansson completes the line-up.

220 Volt (founded 1979) was among the top hard rock acts in Scandinavia during the 80's and released their first, self titled album on CBS in June 1983. The band then went on to release five albums between 1983-1988. The last one recorded in the 80's was the album Eye to Eye which is their best selling album internationally, and it was also on heavy rotation on MTV and many radio stations around the world. It was produced by legendary producer Max Norman (Ozzy/Megadeth/Y&T etc..) and who also has mixed 5 tracks for “Walking In Starlight”.

The band’s reputation was built on frequent album releases and energetic live shows. Besides performing their own headline shows, the Swedes have also toured as support for AC/DC and Nazareth among others. In 1985, 220 Volt performed in front of 80.000 people in Warsaw, Poland. The show was broadcasted live on Polish TV, among the first ever TV-shows in the eastern block to feature a hard rock band.

220 Volt split up in 1992, but released the studio album Lethal Illusion in 1997. The quartet was active for a while between 2002-2008 with members from an earlier line-up and produced two albums, “Volume 1” and the live album “Made in Jamtland”.

Songs like “Firefall”, “Love Is All You Need”, “Beat Of  A Heart”, “The Harder They Come”, “Heavy X-mas” and “Power Games” to name a few, still get airplay around the world... Songs you'll be likely to hear live again soon!

Discography: 220 Volt (1983), Power Games (1984), Mind over muscle (1985), Young and wild (1987), Eye To Eye (1988), Lethal Illusion (1997), Volume 1 (2002), Made in Jamtland (2005), Heavy X-mas revisited (2009, EP), Walking In Starlight (2014)

Line-up: Anders Engberg – vocals, Thomas Drevin – guitars, Mats Karlsson – guitars, Peter Hermansson – drums

WORK OF ART - Framework (Pre-View)

Since their arrival on the scene, Sweden’s WORK OF ART have built a strong dedicated fan base based on their classic old-meets-new AOR sound that shows you can still move forward while carrying a classic sound.
I’ve got great news for fans. Their third album Framework is an absolute joy and might just be their best work yet.

Quite simply this is a fabulous record once again packed with great songs, intelligent arrangements and some blindly good songs.
The YouTube teaser previewed just two songs – Time To Let Go and Can’t Let Go, but there is another 9 tracks of equal appeal.

The band has at times been compared to Toto, and on a song like Shout Till You Wake Up, you’ll hear these guys take on Toto’s heaviest progressive sound.

And on Over The Line, the band delivers their most instant anthem yet.

Framework has a heavier edge to it, more prominent guitars throughout, but still drenched in keyboards and sweet harmonies. And I truly believe these are some of the band’s most instantly likable songs.

There’s a lot to look forward to with Framework come September 19 – Just in time for their debut USA live performance at MelodicRockFest – October 3 in Chicago (www.melodicrockfest.com)!

WIZARDS OF WINTER Present Upcoming Album Artwork

Wednesday, July 23, 2014
Categories:
News Feed
Symphonic rockers The Wizards of Winter and legendary record cover artist Ioannis are happy to present the official cover art for the The Wizards of Winter’s self-titled album, to be released this Fall.

According to artist Ioannis, “I just completed the artwork for the new WIZARDS OF WINTER new album - a talented bunch of individuals that fuse prog symphonic rock with classical and holiday songs to a great result. The goal here was to create a wintery fantasy scene reminiscent of Scandinavian landscapes with just a touch of mysticism and a tip of the hat to Lord Of The Rings, a major book in my teenage years. I hope the art sets the scene to this band’s music and helps the audience along on this voyage.”

Fall tour dates – which will feature original members of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra as special guests – are still being finalized. The first single from this album, the instrumental hit "March Of The Metal Soldiers", was released at the end of May. The band is donating a portion of the proceeds from all sales of this track to the Wounded Warrior Project to honour those who have served in the United States military. English/Norwegian melodic rockers SKYSCRAPER will release their long awaited debut album, ‘Elevation‘, on September 8th worldwide via Ghost Dancer Music/Cargo Records. This dynamic band has been taking critics by storm with their inimitable brand of melodic hard rock. SKYSCRAPER‘s powerful and heavy demeanour is a fresh take on a breed of music that’s been the foundations of rock ‘n’ roll for many years. A new video teaser can be viewed below.

With so much experience between them it’s easy to see why the album, which has been two years in the making, is regarded as essential.

Dave Boyce: “We loved making the album and we can’t wait to get SKYSCRAPER out into the live arena and see what the fans think. We know it’s going to be one hell of a party once we hit the road”.
Lee Small: “It’s been a great journey so far and we’ve had some amazing reaction from industry people which means a lot“.
Tor Talle: “We also have to thank producer Martin Kronlund for helping us put the album together and introducing us to Swedish session drummer Imre Daun, who will be joining us live. He brought great energy and style to the album“.

SKYSCRAPER is:
Lee Small (Vocals)
Lee was the voice on the last Shy album. He hails from the Black Country and his vocals are as evocative and powerful as the many well-known frontmen who come from that area, including Glenn Hughes and Robert Plant.

Tor a renowned Norwegian guitarist, best known for his work with Joe Lynn Turner (Deep PurpleRainbowFergie Frederiksen (Toto), Northern LightOverland and Rob Moratti (Saga).

Guest Musicians:
Imre Daun – Drums (Salute)
Bruce Gaitsch – Acoustic guitars (Madonna, Richard Marx, Chicago)

Ambient Progressive Metal Band, OCEANS OF NIGHT release new CD, Midnight Rising

Tuesday, July 22, 2014
Categories:
News Feed
Dynamic, evocative and powerful, MIDNIGHT RISING is a continuation of the ambient metal style established on 2006's DEEP HORIZON, THE SHADOWHEART MIRROR (2009) and onthrough DOMAIN in 2011. Once again mixed/mastered by Joey Vera (Armored Saint, FatesWarning, Engine), MIDNIGHT RISING also features guest appearances by keyboardist Vivien Lalu (Lalu, Shadrane, Hubi Meisel), guitarist Chris Rifkin (EF5/F5, Eye of the Storm) and vocalist Stephanie Warren. With over an hour of music that pushes boundaries and bridges worlds, Oceans of Night remain dedicated to exploring the sonic limits of metal music by any means necessary.

As the enigmatic and mysterious name suggests, Oceans of Night is equal parts progressive metal and modern rock wrapped around powerful vocal melodies and evocative guitar work served with a distinct ambient flavor. Through the course of 7 CD's, multi-instrumentalist and musical mastermind Scott Mosher has bridged the worlds of progressive metal, melodic hard rock and ambient sounds to create an experimental yet complimentary style of music that is at once as subtle as it is powerful, aggressive as it is dynamic and timeless as it is modern. Scott Oliva continues to perform in legendary NY Iron Maiden tribute band, Live After Death and The Nightmare Stage. He has also written, performed and recorded with Wind Wraith and Inner Strength.

LA BASED HARD ROCKERS X-DRIVE VIDEO “CALIFORNIA” FROM FORTHCOMING DEBUT ALBUM “GET YOUR ROCK ON” HAS EXCLUSIVE WORLDWIDE
PREMIERE ON BLABBERMOUTH.COM

“Get Your Rock On” also available as instant grat track;
Debut album “Get Your Rock On” due out in August on FRONTIERS RECORDS !

Hard Rock fans should not miss the exclusive worldwide premiere on Blabbermouth.com of the video for “California” from X-DRIVE. You can watch the clip clicking on this link: http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/x-drive-featuring-former-megadeth-montrose-members-california-video-premiere/.

The new video is taken from the forthcoming debut album “Get Your Rock On” coming out on Frontiers Records on August 22nd in Europe and August 26th in North America.  “California” is also available now – together with the title track “Get Your Rock On” - as instant gratification track for all those who preorder the album now via iTunes. The two songs can also be streamed via Spotify.

X-DRIVE is a new band centered around guitar player Jeremy Brunner, an Oregon transplant, who – on the heels of his songwriting skills managed to put together an impressive debut with an affinity for catchy riffs, insightful lyrics and huge choruses. Some of the best musicians in Los Angeles have joined the ranks of X-DRIVE, including bassist James Lomenzo (White Lion, Megadeth, Black Label Society), singer Keith St. John (Burning Rain, Lynch Mob, Montrose) and to round out the project hard-hitting drummer Fred Fischer from Midline. Then legendary producer Andy Johns, former Led Zeppelin engineer, was able to finish the X-DRIVE tracks just before his tragic death in 2013.

“Get Your Rock On” was mixed by Wyn Davis (Black Sabbath, Dio, Whitesnake, Dokken), and it took more than a year in the studio to make things just the way Brunner wanted, as the guitarist is a bit of a mastermind perfectionist. But it was definitely worth the wait! The X-DRIVE debut album positively rocks from beginning to end.

HELLION Announces Details of New “Karma’s A Bitch” Mini Album and North American Tour

Artist:
Tuesday, October 7, 2014
Categories:
News Feed

Iconic female-fronted metal act HELLION announce details of their first new album and tour in over a decade.  Entitled Karma’s A Bitch, HELLION’s new mini-LP is set for release October 7 on New Renaissance Records in the US, and via HNE/Cherry Red Records on October 8 in Europe and the UK.  The cover artwork (featured below) was designed by British artist Wolven Claws of The Crystallomantic Art.

With a stellar line-up featuring vocalist Ann Boleyn, drummer Simon Wright (formerly of AC/DC, DIO, and UFO), keyboardist Scott Warren (formerly with DIO and HEAVEN & HELL), bassist Bjorn Englen (formerly with Yngwie Malmsteen), and up-an-coming shred guitarist Maxxxwell Carlisle, this is easily Hellion's strongest line-up ever.

HELLION’s new tracks were produced by Simon Wright and Ann Boleyn alongside legendary British studio icon Ken Scott, who has produced iconic albums, including DAVID BOWIE's "Hunky Dory", "The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars", "Aladdin Sane" and "Pinups".

A top producer at Abbey Road Studios, Scott is also acknowledged as one of the five principal engineers for THE BEATLES.  He has engineered countless classic works, including GEORGE HARRISON's "All Things Must Pass", ELTON JOHN's "Madman Across The Water", "Honky Chateau" and "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player."  Other credits include gold and platinum albums by SUPERTRAMP, DAVID BOWIE, MISSING PERSONS, KANZAS, and more.

Scott recently said of the comparison between working with David Bowie and Ann Boleyn: "Working with Bowie or working with Ann of HELLION, you've got sheer talent.”

Acknowledging Boleyn as the driving force propelling the band, Scott notes: "Over the years, the musicians have changed. The one musician that has always been the same is Ann. So once again, it's new musicians. The one constant thing about HELLION is Ann, and her incredible voice."

“Starting off with a mysterious and ethereal ghostly introduction, Betrayer quickly blasts into overdrive with a scream from Hell and the raw power the likes of which can only come from Ann Boleyn,” commented Rob DiMartini of Metal Scream Radio.  “The title track, Karma's A Bitch, is a tough sounding rocker destined to be one of the strongest songs on metal radio this year.”

Di Martini continued, ”Hell Has No Fury delivers full-tilt metal with a sublime orchestral section by Scott Warren and the blistering guitar work of Maxwell Carlisle. Watch The City Burn takes listeners on an in-depth journey into the anger and chaos of a full-blown riot. The final piece, Til The End, begins with the hammering double-bass power grove of Simon Wright at his finest. With rave reviews pouring in, The Dead Daisies are impressing even the staunchest of classic rock fans with their lives shows, as they wrap up their support tour with Bad Company & Lynyrd Skynyrd, before heading off to join the juggernaut summer tour that is Def Leppard & Kiss as it moves across the States, during August.

"The Dead Daisies played second on the bill, and did a fine job, assuredly, of gaining new fans with a flawless half-hour set." - Buffalo News

The Dead Daisies are straight up rock brewed from a mixture of classic depth and 80s showmanship - all the cool but none of the spandex..   If it looks like rock, sounds like rock, and hits you in the face like rock - it might be The Dead Daisies, a brand new crew oof seasoned musicians that know their way around a big stage” and These guys are entertaining to watch, the vocals are gritty and powerful, they play like their lives depend on it, and they have the experience to back it up.- Maine Music News

The Dead Daisies do, indeed, have the experience to back it up, and the US is loving it - as they should.  Withh veteran of Australian rock,  Jon Stevens on vocals, with more than 30 years of belting out tunes, and the likes of Richard Fortus (Guns N’ Roses/Psychedelic Furs) on lead guitar, Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy/Whitesnake) on bass, David Lowy (Mink/Red Phoenix) on guitar, Dizzy Reed (Guns N’ Roses/Hookers & Blow) on keys, and Brian Tichy (Ozzy Osbourne/Billy Idol) on drums, it’s hard to find a more musically established group of guys when it comes to ROCK.  They know what it is and how to play it, with heavy influences from the late 70s & early 80s shining through.

The Dead Daisies are showing the world that a “classic rock” sound still has what it takes to get people hooked and can stand up to any newer genre it goes up against.  It’s about musicianship, not auto tune and computers.  It’s about rock.  Full stop.

But the excitement doesn’t end there.  Before they join Def Leppard & Kiss on tour, they’re taking some time out to record some new tunes with renowned producer, Ben Grosse (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots, Marilyn Manson, Filter, KD Lang), in Los Angeles.  Then August 1st sees the much-anticipated release of The Dead Daisies brand spanking new EP, Face I Love.

The title track from the EP, Face I Love, was launched in late June in conjunction with an innovative App, where fans have been uploading photos of faces they love, which will become part of the artwork for the EP cover and touring posters.  Selected fans faces will also be chosen to appear in the music video.  And not only that, but one lucky person will go on to win the experience of a lifetime - a trip to see the band at one of ttheir upcoming concerts.

JOHN TAGLIERI Announces 'Days Like These' EP For August

Leap Dog Music and Vanity Music Group are proud to announce that on the heels of his successful 'Southern Paradise' release, John Taglieri is set to release his new Ep, Days Like These on 19 August 2014. The date is also Taglieri's birthday and the title track symbolizes what the Ep is all about.

"Coming off of how great 'Southern Paradise' did, having my first baby, hitting Billboard, & charting overseas, I just cannot believe how blessed and lucky I am with my career." said Taglieri. "I have an amazing fan base and they just keep me going. And Days Like These is exactly what life is about for me right now."

For his twelfth effort, Taglieri wanted to pull out all the stops and make music that truly represents who he is and where his career is at the moment. '15 years ago I released my first CD, 'Leap Of Faith' which is exactly what it was," says Taglieri. 'To be here 15 years and 12 releases later and to be as blessed as I am in my career really shows what my 'Days Like These' is. I get to do what I love everyday and I can't ask for more than that."  Enlisting the help of some friends - both old and new - John worked with several writers and a true A-List crew of musicians to craft six songs that reflect on life and all the amazing things that have happened in it for him as of late.

For the Days Like These release, Taglieri recruited Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp, Elton John, Bob Seger, etc), Alan Jax Bowers (Parrot Bay, Rachel Allyn) , Rich Redmond (Jason Aldean, Ludacris, Kelly Clarkson, etc), Lee Turner (Darius Rucker, Sara Evans, Big and Rich), Eric Ragno (Alice Cooper, Paul Stanley, Billy Gibbons, etc), Joe Gilder, Greg Juliano (Juliano Brothers), Chad Cunningham and Keith Lubrant (whose music you have heard on TV shows such as Real Housewives of Miami, Beavis and Butthead, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, Young and the Restless and dozens more).  'Its been SO cool to have my friends help me make this EP. Keith and I go back 15 years and started out together. Eric and I grew up together and its like life coming full circle. Its also amazing to me to be able to have some of my idols like Kenny Aronoff and Rich Redmond on this release. Its been very surreal to be working with them and really part of what my 'Days Like These' is about."

Days Like These releases on 19 August and the Ep will be preceded by the release of the "Days Like These" single on 29 July.

The BulletBoys Kick Off the Summer 2014 Tour at the Saban Theater

From Joe Dolan in LA:

They're back in action and as Smooth as ever; the BulletBoys, featuring Mark Torien still commanding the front line, are kicking off a summer tour and the first dozen or so dates begin with Quiet Riot, Faster Pussycat and former Guns n' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke in Southern California.

Getting on a nostalgia bill with Quiet Riot is a win/win situation for any band that came out of the MTV Head-Banger's Ball generation. Quiet Riot has been tearing it up for the past three years with global dominance and now performs with front man Jizzy Pearl (Love/Hate, RATT.) On the first shows in So-Cal in years, Quiet Riot announced tour dates with shows in San Diego, Beverly Hills and Anaheim, CA to stat it all off. The show poster boasted more than four hours of hard rockin' songs featuring an all star line-up of bands that lived the dream and made the hair metal scene legendary. Through July 25th, this bill includes the return of the band the BulletBoys.

On stage, front man Mark Torien announced the release of their new single titled Symphony from the upcoming album release Elefante, due out in 2014. In the modern world of social media and online press, the band released the new song on the San Diego radio station KBZT's morning show before being available for download or streaming. Some consider it a bold move, but the band proceeded to play the song to a warm response on stage at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills that night, just about 12 hours after it's first official FM spin.

'We've been very blessed today,' Torien shared. 'We just dropped our new single for our new record. We didn't drop it on iTunes, we dropped it on a very special radio station in San Diego and they played it at about 6'o-clock in the morning when everybody was going to work. The phones just kept on blowing up and blowing up and blowing up. We're really grateful for that.'

On June 10th, just before the new tour kicked off, Blue Sparrow Enterprises, INC, the BulletBoys management company, delivered press that shared drummer Stephen Mills was leaving the band. This opening left an opportunity for drummer Shawn Duncan (DC4/Odin) to step in and command the throne. The band also shared that original bassist Lonnie Vencent would be part of the line-up, rounded out by guitarist Nick Rozz (The Tattooed Millionaires.)

Online schedules show that the 2014 Summer Tour dates extend in to August and cross the States touching down in old familiar territories including Boston, MA, New York and Pennsylvania, across the Midwest and down in to Tennessee and Missouri. The band departs from the Quiet Riot Bang Your Head Tour on July 25th and continues on solo for another 19 dates with unannounced performances ahead.

DRAGONFORCE Hit 'Maximum Overload' August 19 on Metal Blade

Artist:

It's astonishing to realize that DragonForce now have a history going back 15 years, and that they're about to release their sixth album. But such is the pace at which music and life move these days that what was seemingly a highly promising young British metal band just yesterday are now an established full force (ahem) on the scene.  In fact, their reputation is such that anything new from this lot is regarded as a landmark moment in the ongoing story of metal. But the new DragonForce album is a revelation, one that will surely entice them to another level of achievement.

It's called "Maximum Overload," and that's precisely what you get from the 10 tracks on the main album, plus the five bonus songs for the special edition and a DVD. "We have our own style and sound," says Herman Li, who founded the band in 1999 with fellow guitarist Sam Totman. "And we didn't want to move away from that. Once you've got your trademark approach in place, that's what fans come to expect from you. But we also wanted to challenge ourselves. We didn't want to rehash what we'd done before, but take it all in a fresh direction."

So, for the first time in their history, DragonForce have worked with an outside producer. The man in question is the celebrated Jens Bogren, who has previously worked with Opeth, Katatonia, Devin Townsend and Paradise Lost, among many others.

"We had thought about getting Jens to mix our 2008 album ("Ultra Beatdown"), so he was always in our minds. Sam and I have co-produced all our albums so far but the problem with that is it can be really hard to push yourself and the rest of the band. There's always the temptation of going to the pub instead! This time around, we wanted a producer who'd really challenge us, and Jens was the perfect choice."

When you listen to "Maximum Overload," you can hear the way DragonForce have matured, which has actually increased the intensity and power the band generate. What's gone before - from 2003's debut "Valley Of The Damned" through "Sonic Firestorm" ('04), "Inhuman Rampage" ('06), "Ultra Beatdown" ('08) and "The Power Within" (2012) – has laid impressive groundwork, but this is an album with a towering momentum.

"Jens didn't let us get away with anything. He was a slave driver, which is what we needed. He kept on pushing us to get the very best we could deliver. That was a good position to be in, because it meant whereas we might have settled in the past for one standard, this time we had someone outside the band insisting we could do it better."

So, what can we expect this time around from DragonForce? Li is unequivocal. "I'd say you can expect something heavier and also thrashier than we've been before. Yes, it is a different approach for us. But there's still a lot of the trademark DragonForce style present. When people say their new album is 'different', it can mean virtually anything. But what we've avoided is drastic change, which nobody wants." It's about evolution not revolution.

The album was recorded over a period of six months in various locations. "We did a lot of the sessions at Jens' own studios (Fascination) in Orebro and Varberg, Sweden. We'd start about 8am and go all the way through to something like 6pm. We also worked at studios in the UK. And I even did some guitar solos on the yacht owned by Zoltan Bathory from Five Finger Death Punch! "Changing the environment for recording does help, because the different atmospheres can inspire you. We also took breaks at some points, which again was a great help to us. It allows you to stand back and objectively listen to what you've done so far, and you can sometimes hear the way you can improve on what's already there."

There's one guest on the album. Trivium's Matt Heafy. "He does backing vocals on the songs 'The Game', 'No More' and 'Defenders'. We've become friends with the Trivium guys from touring together through the years. On a few songs, we wanted to add a different mix of melodic to extreme vocals, and Matt had the perfect voice for it. When we approached Matt, he immediately agreed to do it."

Another first on the album is the fact that the band have done a cover, the song in question being Johnny Cash's classic "Ring of Fire." "That was Sam's idea. And what we did was take the song and adapt it to the way we play. It's not a hard song to learn, but it is a challenge to do it well. Will we did it live? We shall have to see…"

The line-up that recorded this album is the same as the one responsible for "The Power Within," which means vocalist Mark Hudson (who made his recording debut in 2012) has bedded more comfortably into the band, while Vadim Pruzhanov is on keyboards and Frederic Leclercq is on bass. Dave Mackintosh plays drums on the album but he has subsequently left the band, being replaced by Gee Anzalone, hailing from Turin, Italy, and a graduate of the NAMM Music Academy of Milan.

"Dave just wants to do more progressive music, and that's not a problem for us. He leaves on good terms, and even suggested we contact Gee to replace him. We've gone through this situation before, changing a member of the band after an album's been done. And it's never been tough for us to bring someone new at that stage, and I'm sure we'll adapt this time with no problem."

With "Maximum Overload," DragonForce haven't so much reinvented themselves as reimagined their aspirations. The result is an album full of command, energy and vitality. It's got strength in depth and breadth. Sophistication allied to an attention to detail that goes beyond what's been done before.

"Just repeating the same thing is a waste of everyone's time. We all feel we've recorded something purposeful, for us and the fans."
